How can we know which path is the best? How can we know God's will? These are age old questions; but they do have answers. In today's messages we'll look at how to choose from the paths in front of us.
One of the ways of pleasing God in your daily life is by wanting to do what He wants. Sometimes you view equal opportunities, however, and wonder which direction you should go.
As you read God's Word and pray about the options, you may see nothing wrong with either choice, but you want to be sure to please God. In such uncertain times, follow the instructions of Colossians 3:15:
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
The word in the original language of the New Testament that is translated "rule" has to do with one making a decision, such as an umpire. When faced with two good options that both can bring glory to God, let the peace of God call the decision in your life. Pursue the one that causes you to have a deep-seated peace about it when you pray.
This brings up the concern as to how you can know the will of God. Believers are told to do the will of God, but what are some specific things that are His will? The Bible mentions only a few times that which is the direct will of God.
Here are three verses that specifically state God's will for your life: Verse one: 1 Thessalonians 4:3: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;”
Verse two: 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
And verse three: 1 Peter 2:15: “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”
Use these verses as a checklist to see how you're doing in honoring the Lord in your daily life by doing His specific will in these matters.
What's something new about God you learned through this message?
Who in your life needs to know this about God?
