Living to Please God - Part 6

Who around you could use some encouragement? One of the marks of a mature Christian is the desire to fellowship with others. We'll look at ways to care for the community of Christ in today's devotion.

One of the ways you can please God in your daily life is by remembering those who are in need. Many are in need of encouragement. Hebrews 10:25 says: “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

As a member of the family of God, you need to meet with other family members so you can encourage them and they can encourage you.

One who claims to be a Christ-follower but does not want to be with fellow family members in the body of Christ indicates a problem in his or her relationship with Christ.

While some need your encouragement, others need financial help if you are able to give it. Proverbs 19:17 says: “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”

There are care centers for the homeless that could use volunteers and finances. Do what you can to honor God in this way. Those who share the Gospel with others--whether in your homeland or in a distant place--will be encouraged to know you are praying for them.

Even the apostle Paul asked believers to pray for him. In 1 Thessalonians 5:25 he said, "Brothers, pray for us." In 2 Thessalonians 3:1, he specifically requested: “Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you,”

Pray that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you. This is something you can pray for those you know from your church who are telling others the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

What's something new about God you learned through this message?

Who in your life needs to know this about God?
