Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial - {Interlinear <Greek>}
13:36 - Simon {Σίμων<Simōn>} Peter {Πέτρος<Petros>} said {λέγει<legō>} to → him, {αὐτῷ <autos>} “Lord, {κύριε,<kyrios} where {ποῦ<pou>} are → you → going?” {ὑπάγεις; <hypagō>} Jesus {Ἰησοῦς·<Iēsous>} answered {ἀπεκρίθη <apokrinomai>} him, {αὐτῷ <autos >} “Where {ὅπου<hopou>} I → am → going {ὑπάγω<hypagō>} you → cannot {οὐ δύνασαί<ou dynamai>} follow {ἀκολουθῆσαι·<akoloutheō>} me {μοι<egō>} now, {νῦν <nyn>} but {δὲ<de>} you → will → follow {ἀκολουθήσεις <akoloutheō>} afterward.” {ὕστερον.<hysteros>}

There is something comforting about seeing how slow the disciples were to understand Jesus’ teaching and how reluctant they were to own their brokenness. If Jesus could care for such as these, then there is hope for frail and faulty people such as we. Jesus is a patient teacher, and a most wonderful and merciful Savior. As in Peter’s life, Jesus not only foresees our betrayals; he also foresees our restoration.
